200-plus bikes in stock at Bikers Edge in Peoria

Bikers Edge Cycle and Fitness in Peoria has been catering to bike lovers in the Valley for more than 30 years.

Robert Sealf was a manager of the shop for about three years before he decided to buy it with longtime friend Shayne McQuay.

The pair acquired the store in December 2001 for a simple reason, McQuay said.

"Rob and I have been friends for years and the bottom line of it is, Robert knew bikes and I knew bookkeeping, so it made sense," she said.

Bikers Edge carries a variety of bicycle brands, from Haro and Raleigh to Diamondback. You also can find road bikes, beach cruisers, BMX bikes and custom bikes, McQuay said.

Custom bikes are built for special purposes, usually for racing or for riders who compete, Sealf said.

The store also sells Schwinn fitness equipment and various bike pumps, lights, helmets, jerseys, clothes, repair equipment and bike computers.

With 200-plus bikes in stock and a full-service shop, Bikers Edge is likely to have what you're looking for - and more.

"We offer repair services for life on all of our bikes," McQuay said. "This is what sets us a part from other bike shops. Most only offer repair services for one year after purchase."

McQuay said they have built a loyal customer base not only because they offer a wide selection of merchandise and quality service, but also because everyone knows they are not going anywhere.

"This shop has been around for so long that we literally have like three or four different generations of families that come in here," McQuay said. "The grandfathers who came in here to buy their bikes are bringing in their grandchildren to buy their first bikes."
