Jason Burnett of Toronto placed fifth in men's trampoline and Kristina Vaculik of Oshawa, Ont., took eighth spot on the beam Monday at the Good Luck Beijing International Invitational Tournament gymnastics competition.
The event is being held at Beijing's National Indoor Stadium Olympic venue as a test competition for the 2008 Olympic Games.
In the men's Trampoline final, world champion Ye Shuai of China rebounded from a rough preliminary round to win the gold medal at home. He achieved great height and limited his travelling to earn 40.40 points. Yasuhiro Ueyama of Japan was second at 40.10 and Dimitri Ushakov of Russia was third at 39.70.
Burnett, a two-time World Cup medallist this season, took fifth spot at 39.00.
"I'm not very satisfied with my performance," Burnett said. "It's not what I wanted. My level of difficulty was just medium today. Stability is more important than difficulty. If the difficulty is too high, you may not complete the routine, and the result will definitely not be good."
Meanwhile, China's Cheng Fei won her third gold medal of the tournament when she placed first on the balance beam, the last women's event in artistic gymnastics. Fei earned 15.725 points, with Lauren Mitchell of Australia second and Chellsie Memmel of the U.S. third.
